FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Giza cotton, and why is it better?

Giza cotton is a rare, extra-long staple cotton grown in the Nile Delta in Egypt. Its longer fibres create finer, stronger yarns—resulting in sheets that are softer, more breathable, and longer-lasting than regular cotton.

Why are Giza cotton sheets more expensive?

Giza cotton represents less than a small percentage of the world’s cotton supply. Its rarity, hand-picked harvesting, and superior fibre quality make it a true luxury material.

What is the difference between Egyptian cotton and Egyptian Giza cotton?

Egyptian cotton is a general term for cotton grown in Egypt. It’s known for its long or extra-long staple fibers, which create softer, stronger, and more durable fabrics. However, the term can sometimes be used broadly to describe cotton grown in Egypt without specifying the exact variety.

Egyptian Giza cotton refers to specific premium varieties of Egyptian cotton grown in the Nile Delta region. “Giza” is a classification system for Egypt’s highest-quality cotton strains, developed for their extra-long staple length, exceptional softness, and superior durability.

In simple terms:

  • Egyptian cotton = cotton grown in Egypt (quality can vary by grade).

  • Giza cotton = specific elite varieties of Egyptian cotton, generally considered the finest and most luxurious.

All Giza cotton is Egyptian cotton — but not all Egyptian cotton is Giza.

Is all “Egyptian Cotton” really Egyptian cotton?

No. Many products advertised as “Egyptian cotton” are actually blends or made from non-Egyptian cotton but use the name for marketing purposes.

Genuine Egyptian cotton is certified by the Cotton Egypt Association. Authentic products carry the official seal along with a unique license number.

At Sollou, we are officially certified under license #1214, ensuring our products are made from 100% genuine Egyptian Giza cotton.

If a product does not display the official seal and license number, it is unlikely to be true Egyptian cotton.

Which certifications do your products have?

Our products are certified for authentic Egyptian cotton by the Egyptian Cotton Association, tested to be free from harmful substances under OEKO-TEX®, and manufactured in facilities certified to ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management).

Where are your products manufactured?

Our products are sourced, manufactured, and fully made in Egypt, from cotton harvesting to final finishing. Crafted by skilled Egyptian hands with generations of textile expertise.

What is the thread count, and does it really matter?

Our sheets are made with a 400 thread count, offering the ideal balance of softness, breathability, and durability. With premium long-staple Giza cotton, fibre quality matters more than inflated thread counts—delivering comfort that lasts.

Will the sheets pill over time?

No. Because we use long-staple fibres, the sheets resist pilling and maintain a smooth surface wash after wash.

Are they cool or warm to sleep on?

Giza cotton is naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, making the sheets feel cool in warm weather while remaining comfortable year-round.
